FCCMF Vision Statement

"Building Healthy Marriages & Families in the Four Corners"

FCCMF Mission Statement

The Four Corners Coalition for Marriage and Family exists to inspire, educate and train the The Four Corners Coalition for Marriage and Family exists to inspire, educate and train the citizens of the Four Corners to improve marriages and families by providing pre-marriages preparation, marriage positive networks, resources, seminars, positive marketing, coaching, and community partnerships.

History

  • 2003 the Marriage Initiative Team came together through Father Carl Brenner and Family Mediator Ron Price.
  • In February 2004 Community Marriage Covenant became the first event along with The Marriage Savers Seminar.
  • March of 2005 & 2006 the team brought in “Laugh Your Way to a Better marriage”, with Mark Gungor. Both were sold out events. During this time there were also several FOCCUS training seminars – FOCCUS is a pre-marriage prep training.
  • In 2007 we held several train the trainer seminars for Dynamic Marriage as well as bringing to the area Joe Beam, originator of the program.
  • 2007-2008 we decided to increase our vision and become the Four Corners Coalition for Marriage & Family an educational non-profit.

Moving Forward

It is our goal to build a coalition of businesses, organizations, individuals and faith based ministries in the Four Corners area to help more children grow up in households with two happily married parents. Research verifies that children of divorce face serious challenges and make more negative decisions than do children from intact homes.

The Challenge is multifaceted

Conduct a media campaign involving TV and radio spots which are pro-marriage and family. The media campaign will involve the distribution of pro-marriage and family brochures throughout the Four Corners . These brochures will address a variety of family wellness issues. Billboards and an internet station are also part of our long range planning.

Produce and operate a web site where information and resources address marriage and/or family situations. We plan to promote this web site extensively in the Four Corners .

Inform the business community that the marital condition of their workforce is a wellness issue every bit as important as smoking cessation or other physical health issues. Research is clear that companies enjoy a healthier work environment and greater bottom line when their employees are from successful homes.

Train community members through workshops/seminars/conferences to address marriage, family, step-family, fatherhood, and parenting issues. We believe people are ill-prepared for these very important roles.

San Juan County Community Marriage Policy

Written by San Juan County Marriage Initiative
Representing various faith communities,
we share a common concern regarding marriage.
________________________________________

We believe:
That God has established the sanctity and companionship of marriage in scripture; That God intends the gift of the marriage bond of husband and wife to last a lifetime; That as religious leaders we have a responsibility to participate in and provide premarital preparationto improve the understanding and mutual commitment of those couples being married; That as religious leaders we have a responsibility to provide ongoing support to strengthenand nourish existing marriages.

Therefore we will:
Expect a minimum of four months of preparation prior to the marriage; Expect a minimum of four counseling sessions with one devoted to the use of a premarital test or inventory and one devoted to the biblical understanding of marriage and divorce;Encourage engaged couples to attend a relationship enrichment weekend or seminar to improve communication skills and establish their marriage with Christ at the center;Train leader/mentor couples in each church to work in one of three mentor programs as:• Role models and counselors who will be available for premarital and post-marital counseling sessions with newly married couples,• Creators of a marriage ministry of mentoring couples whose own marriages once nearly failed to work with troubled marriages,• Creators of a marriage ministry of mentoring couples who are involved in blended families to work with blended family marriages that are in trouble;Encourage all married couples to attend an annual retreat to enrich their marriage relationship. We clergy will cooperate to learn more about how to bond couples for life, and those of us who are married will be the first to attend couples’ retreats and be involved in other relationship enrichment activities. We commit to seek the endorsement of these minimum standards by our congregations and to encourage others to do, for the Glory of God and the Good of our Community.
